The movie side of the Star Trek franchise has been rocky ever since Star Trek Beyond opened in 2016 and, although met with positive critical reception, underperformed at the box office. In recent months, it's been revealed that there are two Star Trek movies currently in development: Star Trek 4, which would be a direct follow-up to Beyond, and an untitled movie which is based off an idea that Quentin Tarantino pitched. However, Star Trek 4 just hit a major development snag, as both Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth have reportedly stepped away from the project.

Chris Pine succeeded William Shatner as James T. Kirk when 2009's Star Trek rebooted the franchise, while a pre-Thor Chris Hemsworth made a minor appearance in that same movie as George Kirk, James' father. Around the time Star Trek Beyond came out, it was announced that the two Kirk men would cross paths in Star Trek 4, but according to THR, Pine and Hemsworth have exited talks with Paramount Pictures and Skydance Media about the fourth installment set in the Kelvin timeline. The collapsed deals came down to money, as both actors wanted the studios to stick to the existing deals, but Paramount insisted on them taking pay cuts in order to stick to a budget, noting that Beyond didn't commercially perform as well as was hoped. One insider even claims that both Paramount and Skydance lost money on Beyond.

As things stand now, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg and John Cho are all closing deals to reprise their respective characters in Star Trek 4, but losing Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth definitely constitutes a major setback. Granted, it's possible that Star Trek 4's could be reworked so that Hemsworth wasn't needed, but Pine is one of the biggest draws for these movies, if not the main one. Don't forget that both actors are also significantly more famous than they were a decade ago, with Hemsworth finding worldwide fame playing Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Pine boosting his profile with movies like Wonder Woman and A Wrinkle in Time.

So what happens from here? Well, it's possible that both Chris Pine and Chris Hemsworth could change their mind and return to the negotiating table. However, if a new agreement can't be worked out, it's likely that James Kirk and George Kirk would be recast. This is especially necessary for James, because it's hard to imagine an adventure featuring the original crew of the Enterprise without him sitting in the captain's chair. Whatever ends up happening on this front, Paramount and Skydance reportedly don't plan on putting Star Trek 4 on hold, as it's considered a "priority development."

While no specific plot details for Star Trek 4 have been released yet, given that George Kirk sacrificed himself at the beginning of 2009's Star Trek to sabotage Nero's ship and save the survivors of the Kelvin, including his wife, Winona, and newborn son, it was assumed that George would meet the adult James through time travel shenanigans. Back in April, it was announced that S.J. Clarkson will direct Star Trek 4, making her the first woman to helm a Star Trek movie.

We're just a few short weeks away from the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story, but you'd be forgiven for wishing it was called Lando instead. Much of that has to do with the fact that Lando is portrayed by Donald Glover, an incredibly talented guy who can act, write, and sing. Well, he can now add host SNL to that list because Glover hosted a pretty entertaining episode of the long-running sketch show last night. Among the memorable sketches, Glover gave a taste of his take on Lando ahead of the spin-offs debut and you can check that out below.

Donald Glover may not have made it past the audition (twice!) but he returned Saturday Night Live as the host and musical guest. As should come as no surprise to most, Glover took to his job easily, leading several funny sketches and helping to elevate a few that needed an extra boost. While SNL had plenty of movie-themed sketches last night (including A Quiet Place), perhaps the most buzzworthy belonged to Glover showing off his Lando Calrissian in a Star Wars themed sketch that tried to answer one important question: Where are all the black humans in the galaxy?

In the sketch, Glover's Lando has founded a conference on Naboo to assemble all the black humans in the galaxy. He anticipated thousands of people showing up but it turns out that there's only about four total. As Lando says, there's a bunch of lizards in vests but not that many black people. The lack of representation in Star Wars has long been a major and justifiable critique of the series and SNL poked some serious fun at that. Lando kicked the conference off by introducing Saw Gerrera (Kenan Thompson), who fans may remember from fellow Star Wars spin-off Rogue One. Saw tried to honor all the black humans who had come before him but was only able to name Mace Windu.

Leslie Jones' character then took the stage and after a way too forward kiss on the hand from Lando, she announced that due to low attendance, all the events except meals have been canceled ("Even the thousand man march?" "What do you think, dude?!"). The sketch ended with Lando revealing that before he made his money playing cards or whatever else he does, he wanted to be a singer and becomes to croon "Making Love in Space," with Max Rebo on the keys. It's honestly a pretty weak ending to the sketch, but that's SNL for you.

This Rotten Week: Predicting Sicario: Day Of The Soldado And Uncle Drew Reviews

This summer has been a constant ebb and flow of big blockbusters and smaller movies, and following Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom's big debut last week, this time around we are looking more at the latter category. In other words, we don't have any big action or spectacle, but we do have the thriller Sicario: Day of the Soldado and the new comedy Uncle Drew.

Just remember, I'm not reviewing these movies, but rather predicting where they'll end up on the Tomatometer. Let's take a look at This Rotten Week has to offer.

If there was a metric that tracked how often people watched a single sequence, I'd be the leader in the clubhouse when it comes to the boarder crossing scene from Sicario (93%). The whole movie was a butt-clenching, and a how-to in suspense and layered story, and now we have a sequel that's going to try and live up to it. Taylor Sheridan has written the screenplay for Sicario: Day of The Soldado, but director Stefano Sollima has taken the reins from Denis Villeneuve, telling a new story that follows follow Matt (Josh Brolin) and Alejandro (Benicio del Toro) in their quest to continue keeping the drug cartels off balance and disrupted.

It was always going to be tough for Sicario: Day of the Soldado to match up with the original, and early reviews are trending lower. It's currently at 68 percent with 19 reviews posted, and I suspect it continues to drop over the course of the week. It's a bit of an odd story to follow up on, especially because the main characters worked well as side notes to Emily Blunt in Sicario, but it does still look like it could end up with a "Fresh" rating.

I'm not sure how much shrift I can give to a movie starring a current NBA superstar based on a Pepsi Max commercial that aired years ago. But here we are with Uncle Drew, starring Kyrie Irving and a bunch of former NBA stars all wearing old people makeup and schooling younger players. It's essentially the elderly And1 tour, except the guys are all former NBA dudes. The commercials were mildly entertaining and reached viral status, but a whole 103 minutes of this? Oof.

Director Charles Stone has some solid work on his resume, including Drumline (82%), but he followed that up with Mr. 3000 (54%), and really not much since. Simply put, I'd be completely floored if Uncle Drew was anything but a critical bomb. It's just too tough a shot to be a slam dunk. It may be fun for some folks, but I expect unwatchable for most.

There was only one movie on the docket last week, and my prediction came in within range - though I definitely had a very big head start with the movie lifting its review embargo early. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (Predicted: 59% Actual: 50%) definitely split critics, though it wasn't enough to earn a "Fresh" rating. It's not exactly a great look for the legendary franchise, but negative reviews aren't exactly going to stop it in its tracks. The film is already one of the biggest releases of the year, and it surely won't be long until the third movie is announced.

Next time around the Marvel Cinematic Universe returns with the release of Ant-Man and the Wasp. It's gonna be a Rotten Week!

While Bohemian Rhapsody received mixed reviews as a film, most have praised Rami Malek's performance for the way he seemingly transformed into Queen frontman Freddie Mercury. The actor has spoken at length about the way he watched a lot of Mercury in an attempt to learn how to move and how to speak like the eccentric performer, but it turns out that becoming Freddie Mercury also included a serious diet and exercise routine in order to both physically look like the man, as well as have the ability to perform in the way that he did. I didn't really want to bulk up, per se --- I just wanted to get my body into a place where I could do a 22-minute concert over and over for five days and not be out of breath. Well, it's highly impossible to do that. There were days when I found myself laying on my back trying to just absorb as much air as possible. But at the same time, I was on a very specific diet. I bulked up for that first week and immediately had to drop muscle and weight and go into shooting young Freddie, who is very scrawny. I just had to be really cognizant of when to work out and when to crash diet. I don't recommend it for anyone.

Getting in the right physical shape for a role is important. It's frequently a key part of action movies, but in the case of Bohemian Rhapsody, Rami Malek needed to be in shape so that he could perform like Freddie Mercury. The singer was an energetic and enthusiastic performance, and Malek had to be able to look the same way, without wearing himself out.

In addition, Malek tells The Wrap that he had to shift between adding muscle and dropping weight quickly, as he shifted between filming scenes of a young scrawny Freddie and the larger, more in shape Queen version of the man.

Shifting between heavy workouts and crash diets certainly doesn't seem like fun and Rami Malek confirms this. Being a lead actor in a major Hollywood movie is probably a lot of fun most of the time. And sometimes it sounds like it completely sucks. Crash diets aren't healthy and nobody recommends that people try them, but when you're under the constraints of a multimillion dollar movie schedule, there's little else that can be done.

Ultimately, as Rami Malek says, the goal wasn't so much muscle as it was energy. Bohemian Rhapsody culminates in an epic finale which recreates the band's famous 1985 Live Aid performance almost in its entirety. Malek had also confirmed that some takes were done as a single long performance, which meant Malek had to be able to put on a concert without wearing out. He did succeed, as the Live Aid sequence is the highlight of the movie.
