Wait, Luke Skywalker May Have Had A Wife?

A lot of time passed between the releases of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi and Stars Wars: The Last Jedi. While fans only saw a small portion of Luke Skywalker's life during The Last Jedi, he didn't just sit on an island for over 30 years. He lived a whole life that we didn't see, likely filled with adventure, drama, and, possibly, love. It turns out that Luke may have been married at some point in his life. The novelization of The Last Jedi reportedly features a line that claims Luke had a wife before the events of the blockbuster sequel.

There may be a line in the novelization of Star Wars: The Last Jedi that reveals Luke Skywalker had a wife at one point in his life. A picture of the first line from the book was posted to Reddit and reads "Luke Skywalker stood in the cooling sands of Tatooine, his wife by his side." Obviously, due to the source and the fact that the novel does not release until March 6, we have to treat this with a grain of salt, but it is still incredibly interesting all the same. It's also important to remember that this is an out of context line, and might not mean what it appears.

As fans of the Star Wars Expanded Universe may know, Luke was married to a woman named Mara Jade. Mara was an "Emperor's Hand" and served Emperor Palpatine. She attempted to kill Luke in revenge after he defeated the Emperor, but she was mostly prompted to do so by telepathic programming from Palpatine. Luke was able to free her and the two eventually fell in love, got married, and had a child named Ben Skywalker. Mara was one of the more popular characters from the Expanded Universe, but she's yet to make the transition into the current canon.

If this does turn out to be a real line from the novel, it raises several questions. For one, who is the mysterious wife? Mara Jade would obviously be the top contender but it could be a different character. We also have to wonder at what point Luke got married and what happened to his wife? There's no mention of her in The Last Jedi, but that makes sense considering Luke is a private person in the movie and he has no reason to tell Rey, a stranger, his life story. It would be pretty distracting if it were just an off the cuff remark that is never addressed again.

We also have to consider the fact that this line could be intentionally misleading. If you scroll further down into the Reddit thread, some comments say that this is just part of a dream sequence of what Luke's life could have been like had he not gone off to blow up the Death Star. That feels pretty in line with what Rian Johnson was doing in The Last Jedi. Doesn't mean he never fell in love or even had a different wife, but he's imagining what his life could have been like instead of living alone on an island sipping green milk straight from the...whatever that thing was.

The Star Wars: The Last Jedi novel is due to release on March 6, 2018, so we'll know for sure what's going on with Luke's wife after then.

An Avengers: Infinity War Character Who Might Not Be Dead After All

Warning: spoilers ahead for Avengers: Infinity War! Read ahead at your own risk!

Joe and Anthony Russo's Avengers: Infinity War racks up an impressive body count over the run of its story. From heroes like Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Vision (Paul Bettany) to villains like Loki (Tom Hiddleston), the film has no shortage of devastating deaths. That said, one apparent demise that's never made entirely clear is that of Benicio del Toro's The Collector. With that in mind, I asked del Toro about the fate of the character during the recent press day for Sicario: Day of the Soldado and the Guardians of the Galaxy actor noted that he thinks The Collector survived Infinity War. He said:

I think he's alive. Yeah... I think that, you know, I think he's alive. You're talking to him!

So, there you have it. Though Avengers: Infinity War seems to depict the death of The Collector when The Guardians arrive to obtain the Aether from his lair, Benicio del Toro thinks that the character is alive. Though we don't get an exact explanation as to why he thinks that's the case, it's not out of the question to imagine that he could return when we consider the fact that other "dead" actors like Zoe Saldana have teased their returns as well.

This situation is confusing because of how much reality bends during the sequence in which The Collector appears to die. Specifically, Thanos (Josh Brolin) uses the Reality Stone to alter the perception of The Collector's lair, and by the time the scene ends, it's never entirely clear if The Collector's death was a projection created by The Mad Titan or the real deal. Considering how wild of a moment it is, neither option would surprise us.

Of course, the other option that we need to consider in this particular instance is that The Collector is actually dead, and Benicio del Toro is just messing with us. In his remarks, he does not actually offer a rationale for why the character is still alive, instead opting to note that he's still around in real life, and therefore The Collector is alive as well. He's clearly playing this entire situation reasonably close to the vest (which is pretty much the Marvel Studios MO at this point), so we will just have to wait and see if The Collector comes back for Avengers 4, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, or any of the other upcoming MCU adventures. Still, listen to how he responds. We think he really BELIEVES he's alive!

Avengers: Infinity War is still in theaters, so if you haven't had a chance to check out the latest offering from the Marvel Cinematic Universe yet, make sure to see it on the big screen while you still can! Black Panther Is About To Hit A Major Superhero Movie Milestone

At this point, there is a solid chance that many of you have already heard about how Ryan Coogler's Black Panther seriously overperformed at the box office. T'Challa's (Chadwick Boseman) origin movie has become one of the most successful Marvel Cinematic Universe films in history, and it has officially become a watershed moment in the history of the comic book movie genre. Specifically, it looks like Black Panther is about to become the most financially successful superhero origin movie of all time.

Black Panther has knocked out milestone after milestone in the short time that it's been in theaters, but the one it's about to hit is one of its most impressive yet. The eighteenth Marvel Cinematic Universe movie is currently nearing $412 million at the domestic box office, which puts it in spitting distance of overtaking Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman's $412.5 million lifetime gross, which will make it the highest-grossing comic book origin movie of all time.

As of right now, Black Panther has most recently overtaken Sam Raimi's Spider-Man, as well as Tim Miller's Deadpool -- both of which have become recognized as record breakers and game changers in their own right. T'Challa is often regarded as the wealthiest comic book character in the Marvel and DC canons, and the box office performance of Black Panther is definitely helping him live up to that reputation.

While it's true that Black Panther technically hasn't overtaken Wonder Woman's top spot on the Box Office Mojo leaderboards just yet, it's worth remembering that it's almost certainly going to happen soon. Black Panther has been in theaters for less than two weeks, and it is already within one million dollars of the DCEU film's lifetime gross. Considering the legs that Black Panther seems to have at the box office (which is especially impressive when we reflect on the fact that Wonder Woman similarly showed quite a bit of stamina at the box office), it's really just a matter of waiting until it takes the top spot.
