Jeffrey Dean Morgan Has A DC Character He'd Like To Play, And It's Not Batman

It seems that Jeffrey Dean Morgan still has the DC Comics fever. Despite playing the Comedian in Watchmen (which was published by an imprint of DC Comics), and Thomas Wayne in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Morgan is down to play one more superhero on the big screen. The actor has voiced a desire to play the Thomas Wayne version of Batman in the past, but Morgan also has his sights set on a different character: Lobo. Morgan wants to play the antihero Lobo one day in a movie as he recently told a crowd at a convention.

The only one I want to play is DC and Lobo. He's badass. Marvel, I don't know, everyone that's in it is pretty good. I feel like all the greatest characters, they're working.

For those who don't know, Lobo is a DC Comics antihero who was created in the 80s. He was revived in the 90s as a parody of grim, dark, gun-toting Marvel characters like Cable and Punisher, but gained a lot of popularity from fans of that trend. He's an intergalactic bounty hunter who is the last of his species...because he killed them all. He's super strong and invulnerable, able to even fight characters like Superman. He travels around the cosmos on a motorcycle, wears leather, smokes cigars, engages in heavy violence, and treats everybody like dirt. If you know anything about comic books in the 90s, you can probably see why he was so popular.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan has held a number of roles in film and TV, but he might be known best for his current role as the villain Negan on The Walking Dead. While attending a panel at Walker Stalker Con (via ComicBook), Morgan was asked which superhero character he'd like to play. After noting that Marvel is in pretty good shape at the moment, he would rather continue his relationship with DC and play Lobo, calling him a "badass."

It wouldn't be the first time Morgan has played a violent, cigar smoking antihero. He played the Comedian in the Watchmen movie, and Morgan's performance is viewed as one of the film's highlights-- so it's not too hard to see him as Lobo either. Whether he'll have the opportunity to star as the character is another question. DC has been trying to get a Lobo movie off the ground for a while and it's been stuck in development hell. With the DC cinematic universe still growing, the character could always appear in someone else's movie.

Lobo will actually be making his first live-action appearance in the TV show Krypton during its second season. No actor has been cast yet, but maybe that's as good a place as any for Morgan to get his shot.

Sony is launching its own Spider-Man movie universe without Spider-Man, and now rumors are circulating that the studio's Venom movie doesn't even have Venom in it. The marketing for Venom began early last month with the release of the first teaser, but it's fair to say that the response was lukewarm at best. Many were put down by the fact that the trailer barely included the symbiote, let alone any signs of the Venom costume. This has led to rumors that the movie might not actually show Venom until the end, and star Tom Hardy has a few words to say about that:

The plan is for Venom to launch a cinematic movie universe of Spider-Man supporting characters, but the franchise seems to already be off on the wrong foot. A teaser trailer offered the first glimpse of the film but didn't show much aside from Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock screaming in pain. Earlier this week, an unnamed source claimed that the symbiote only exists inside Brock's body and doesn't form the Venom suit until the final fight of the movie. Now, these rumors don't exactly come from a trusted source, so grains of salt are deeply required, but Venom doesn't really need that kind of publicity right out of the gate.

Tom Hardy took to his Instagram account to dispel the rumors, writing that the rumors were "asinine," created by someone who wasn't able to gain "credible intel." Hardy is essentially promising that you will see the Venom before the ending of the movie and not to believe everything you read.

While fans worrying about the Venom movie is understandable given that Sony's most recent attempt at Spider-Man had enough issues that they eventually let Marvel Studios take over, there's no reason yet to go as far as to assume Venom isn't in his own movie. While the teaser didn't show him at all, that is probably due to the fact that the special effects weren't finished in time for a trailer. Keep in mind that the movie only wrapped filming earlier this year and then released the trailer soon after. If anything, the only sin committed so far was not waiting longer to tease a movie that doesn't come out until October.

Venom is directed by Ruben Fleischer and will tell the origin story of the Spider-Man villain/anti-hero Venom. Not much is known about the movie plot-wise, but it is set in San Francisco and follows Eddie Brock as he is bonded to a parasitic symbiote that grants him superpowers. The movie stars Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, Jenny Slate, Riz Ahmed, and Woody Harrelson.

New Halloween Reboot Footage Nods At The Original Movie

He is coming home again later this year, and by he, I mean Michael Myers. The iconic killer clad in a black jumpsuit and a William Shatner mask is set to terrorize Haddonfield, Illinois one more time when Blumhouse's Halloween premieres and a new teaser trailer has just dropped showing us some excellent footage of the reboot. Upon closer inspection, however, it's also clear that director David Gordon Green is paying serious homage to some impressive set pieces from John Carpenter's original film. Check out the teaser, below.

Right off the bat, we see that the film looks creepy, atmospheric, and downright reminiscent of the 1978 original. However, David Gordon Green goes a step further by seemingly making direct references to awesome moments that made the first film so iconic. The first of these moments is a very brief shot of mental asylum patients (presumably Smith's Grove Sanitarium, to be precise) wandering on the road in the middle of the night, only to be illuminated by the headlights of an approaching car. Whether intentional or not, this is directly reminiscent of the scene in the first film in which Michael escapes from Smith's Grove.

Then there's the creepy use of a sheet. In this teaser, we see a figure sitting in a chair in a ghost costume as the camera slowly enters a room in a POV shot. Though it's not an exact recreation, the moment appears to be a direct callback to the legendary moment in the original in which Michael masquerades as Bob under a sheet and then murders Lynda with the telephone cord.

The only thing missing in the new version of the scene is Bob's quintessentially 1970s glasses.

In addition to the stuff that harkens back to the original Halloween, there is also some genuinely great new material in this teaser as well. Some of the moments include Jamie Lee Curtis' Laurie Strode practicing her marksmanship on a firing range (clearly anticipating the return of The Shape to Haddonfield), as well as Michael stalking various victims through a house, as he is wont to do. Though David Gordon Green is paying some notable homage to the first film, he obviously has his own vision for how he wants to proceed with this new, rebooted take on the Halloween mythology. Needless to say, we can't wait for the new trailer and eventually the full movie.
