This Rotten Week: Predicting Tyler Perrys A Madea Family Funeral And Greta Reviews

Oscar season has come to end, and audiences are still waiting for the next big Marvel release. This week, the in-between-ness can definitely be felt. Coming up we have a comedic funeral, and a creepy stalker story, so get ready for Tyler Perrys A Madea Family Funeral and Greta.

Just remember, I'm not reviewing these movies, but rather predicting where they'll end up on the Tomatometer. Let's take a look at This Rotten Week has to offer.

Its always fun to get the change to run through Tyler Perrys critical resume - and I get to do it regularly twice per year. No one does rotten critical consensus quite like this guy. Its a lock time in and time out for these films to finish with a mostly dismal critical response. More than anything, Im impressed by the consistency. Lets just look at his Madea catalogue, because shes making another appearance this week in Tyler Perrys A Madea Family Funeral:

Thats an average of 20% over eight movies. In other words, not good. But these flicks make bank, covering around half a billion in box office sales over the course of the franchise. I expect more of the same with Tyler Perrys A Madea Family Funeral, which is said to be the last feature apperance for the titular character. The prediction matching the average of the franchise seems appropriate.

In the past, if a movie character found a random bag on the subway in New York City and returned it to the owner, the two would eventually fall in love rom-com style. Thats usually how that kind of scenario works out. But not this time, folks. When Frances (Chloe Grace Moretz) finds the bag belonging to Greta (Isabelle Huppert) and they meet, the former thinks the latter is something of the mother figure she needs in her life, but that turns out to very much not be the case. Turns out Greta is a high level super-stalker and shit gets real weird real quick.

Critics have been generally positive about Greta so far, with the Tomatometer sitting at 73% with 22 reviews posted. Thats a solid start for a film that could easily be a hacked up, cliched mess. The general tone of reviews is that Neil Jordans film is mostly B-level script stuff, but the female leads carry it all the way through. Expect the score to dip some over the course of the week.

There was only one movie on the docket last week, and it ended up as predictive win. How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (Predicted: 95% Actual: 91%) fell easily within range and was a successful follow up to How To Train Your Dragon (98%) and the first sequel (92%). Getting the three films in a trilogy (or any franchise) all above the 90% mark is quite the accomplishment. This marks a massive win for DreamWorks, which has had its fair share of hits of the years, but critically, this is their most consistently great franchise.

The Star Wars franchise is in a fascinating place currently, as we inch closer to the release of Episode IX. The pressure is on for J.J. Abrams to deliver a satisfying blockbuster, which will end the current trilogy and wrap up the Skywalker Saga forever. Once that sequel arrives this coming December, the future of the galaxy, far far away is a complete mystery.

There are a variety of projects developing for Star Wars fans, including Rian Johnson's very own trilogy. Game of Thrones creators D.B Weiss and David Benioff are also working on their own additions to the beloved space opera, but a new report indicates they may be end up expanding their deal with Lucasfilm to a full trilogy. HBO's Casey Bloys was recently asked about the duo's upcoming HBO series Confederate, where she revealed why it's been delayed, saying:

The delay has to do with [the fact] that they were offered three movies.

By the old Gods and the new, it looks like D.B Weiss and David Benioff's upcoming S_tar Wars_ movie might actually include plans for two more. And considering how well they've crafted the long and complicated story of Game of Thrones, this concept is enough to get even casual fans excited.

Of course, Casey Bloys' comments to TV Line aren't a confirmation that the duo of filmmakers will actually go through with three blockbusters. It's possible that they were simply offered two movies besides their Star Wars deal, which resulted in Confederate's delay. Still, the idea of Weiss and Bloys crafting their own Star Wars trilogy is an exciting one, with the duo's plans for the franchise still a mystery.

Overall, Lucasfilm is going to continue breaking new ground for the Star Wars franchise, as it has since Disney acquired George Lucas' studio years ago. This was already done through standalone films and the upcoming live-action series The Mandalorian, but things are going to get even more interesting once Episode IX finally arrives in theaters.

Because for the first time in A New Hope arrived in theaters in 1977, the next Star Wars movies will have no connection to Luke Skywalker and his bloodline. D.B Weiss and David Benioff must find a way to get the generations of fans invested in new characters and settings, presuming J.J. Abrams' didn't lose them all with the release of Episode IX. Luckily for the pair of filmmakers, they know how to craft compelling characters in Game of Thrones-- and plenty of them.

I'm particularly interested to see when D.B. Weiss and David Benioff will set their Star Wars movies-- regardless of how many blockbuster it'll be. Aside from the current trilogy, much of the new Star Wars content has been set in the past, specifically during Empire rule. It would be exciting to flash forward and see what the future of the galaxy is like. That, or additional stories set during the prequel trilogy.

Where's Hawkeye In Avengers: Infinity War? The Russo Brothers Explain

The culmination of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is upon us in next month's Avengers: Infinity War. The marketing for the film is now in full swing but we still have yet to catch a glimpse of Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye. Even this morning's incredible final trailer for the film and the accompanying new poster don't feature Clint Barton. So what is going on with Hawkeye in Infinity War and where is the character after the team-breaking events of Captain America: Civil War? Well, Infinity War directors Joe and Anthony Russo explained a little about what's in store for Hawkeye, saying:

Joe Russo: Coming out of Civil War, he's in the same position that Cap and Falcon are at the end of that movie. And Ant-Man. Coming into this movie, you know... Characters on Cap's side coming out of the Civil War, some made certain decisions and others made other decisions that led to different paths in them dealing with oversight in this movie in a different way. So Hawkeye's on his own journey in this movieAnthony Russo: Yeah. He has a unique reaction to the civil war situation that puts him in a special spot in this film.

Speaking with CinemaBlend's own Sean O'Connell and other outlets during a set visit last year, the Russo Brothers make it clear that the events of Civil War will continue to impact the fractured Avengers team. Hawkeye was one of the Avengers who became a fugitive at the end of Civil War, so he finds himself in a similar situation as the rest of Cap's team. While in prison, Clint Barton was especially angry at the way things went down and he let Tony Stark know it. After being broken out from prison, it sounds like Hawkeye took a much different path than the other fugitives. But the question remains, what path did he take and where did it lead him?

Avengers: Infinity War picks up about two years after Civil War, and in the time since everyone has been doing their own thing. Cap has been a fugitive in Wakanda, still working with Black Widow. The other members of Cap's team, Wanda and Sam, have already been seen joining the fight in Infinity War. It's just the conspicuously absent Ant-Man and Hawkeye who are the question marks. Hawkeye is one of the few members of the Avengers who has a real family life, and he probably went back to his wife and kids and retired after that film. The events of Civil War likely made him no longer want to be a part of the constant struggle of superhero life. But just sitting at home isn't much of a journey, and the question remains what his arc will be as his friends face off with a cosmic threat.

What's especially interesting is why we have yet to see anything of Hawkeye and this special spot he finds himself in as Anthony Russo mentioned. Is Hawkeye's story almost entirely separate from everyone else's, and is there another thread to this movie that we haven't even glimpsed in the trailers yet? There is also the speculation that Clint Barton will be assuming the Ronin identity, and that is why he is being held back. Regardless, based on the Russo Brothers' comments, it sounds like Hawkeye's story will be one of the more unique and personal in this film, and perhaps it is his journey that eventually heals the divide left after Civil War.
