Ralph Breaks The Internet Is Making Huge Money At The Box Office Already

The long Thanksgiving weekend has barely gotten started but Ralph Breaks the Internet is already on track to break some box office records. The Disney sequel brought in $18.5 million on Wednesday, which has resulted in the movie getting its five-day weekend total estimate raised up to $94 million, which would make it the biggest Thanksgiving weekend opening of all time.

It's a busy Thanksgiving weekend at the movies with three major releases, including Ralph, Creed II, and Robin Hood. The numbers are looking good for two of those movies, as in addition to Ralph Breaks the Internet's $94 million Creed II is looking to bring in something upwards of $60 million. However, Robin Hood is in much worse shape. It only brought in a little over $3 million on Wednesday and is tracking to do about $17 million by the time the weekend is over.

Needless to say, an opening weekend that, according to THR, some believe might exceed $100 million, is a huge opening for Ralph Breaks the Internet. The original film, which opened in early November back in 2012, didn't quite break $50 million in its opening weekend and while we are talking about comparing five days to three in that case, it still shows that the audience for Ralph has grown over the years. The current Thanksgiving weekend record holder is Disney's Frozen which brought in $93.6 million.

Disney has pretty much owned the Thanksgiving weekend over the last several years, with recent successes like Coco and Moana but neither of those has really competed for the best ever crown as Ralph is currently doing. The fact that Ralph Breaks the Internet is a sequel is certainly a large part of that reason. The characters are already known and loved by fans. Of course, theatrical sequels to animated Disney films are a rare thing. Only the Rescuers Down Under and Fantasia 2000 have previously hit the screen.

Disney has had rules against theatrical sequels in the past but that is clearly over as next November will see the release of another high profile Disney sequel, Frozen 2. Interestingly, it might not be the box office champ over the Thanksgiving weekend next year. While it was originally set to open on the Wednesday before the holiday, the film has now been moved up to open on the previous Friday. It may still win the long weekend, but it may not set any records since the biggest crowds will likely be there on its opening weekend.

M. Night Shyamalan Explains His Intentions With The Glass Ending

WARNING: The following is going to load up on spoilers for Glass. So if you didn't make it over to the theaters this weekend to see it, bail out now.

M. Night Shyamalan concluded a trilogy over the weekend, one that he began back in 2000 with the somber and moody (but masterful) Unbreakable. The story continued in Split, with a surprise Bruce Willis cameo. And Glass brings Samuel L. Jackson's manipulative Elijah into the story once again for a confrontation between David Dunn (Willis) and The Beast (James McAvoy). Usually, it take months or even years for a filmmaker to discuss their intentions with an audience. Not Shyamalan. He talked about his ending already, explaining:

I always thought it was a little bit of like an opera, even when I was starting on Unbreakable. I thought this was a very operatic end to it all [with] people screaming and all of these kinds of implications. It was about implications more than anything. I'm a big fan of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest as you can probably tell. The format of that movie just blew me away when I saw it. The idea that the journey of the main character gets fulfilled by another character is a very powerful idea.

I have to be honest. I'm not sure what M. Night Shyamalan is talking about here with EW. Opera? Implications? OK, I guess I understand that. By the end of Glass, Elijah (Samuel L. Jackson) has manipulated Dr. Ellie Staple (Sarah Paulson), who herself was working for a covert organization meant to stop Supers. He managed to release the footage of David and The Beast fighting, so the world will now know what Elijah has believed his whole life -- that normal people are surrounded by gifted people blessed with unusual powers.

But who is the "Main" character in Glass that M. Night Shyamalan is discussing? I suppose it's Elijah. The movie's named after him, anyway. So if his ultimate journey is to expose the world to people like David and Kevin Wendell Crumb (McAvoy), then he fulfilled it through the actions of Ellie Staple. That's what Night means, right?

I still, personally, found the ending of Glass to be wildly underwhelming. The introduction of the secret society raised far more questions than the movie had answers to, and the cliffhanger ending was unsatisfactory. Yes, Elijah managed to get the footage released -- with the help from Casey (Anya Taylor-Joy), Joseph Dunn (Spencer Treat Clarke) and Mrs. Price (Charlayne Woodard). But what will it matter? Will the people believe? Or will they shrug it off? Elijah's mission might be for naught.

No matter your take on Glass, it sounds like the movie will inspire conversation for weeks to come. People are ripping the movie, which has then spawned a new cult of defenders. The movie did very well at the box office, and could continue, with no real competition for weeks. Have you seen it yet? What did you think of Elijah's master plan?

One Marvel Character Who Definitely Isn't Returning From The Dead

Spoilers ahead for Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a very interesting place at the moment. The release of Avengers: Infinity War saw a ton of major character deaths, and fans are left wondering if any of their favorite fallen heroes might return to the world of the living in Avengers 4. The Surprise appearance of long lost character Red Skull certainly made it seem like just about any character could pop back up, but we now know one villain who is dead for good: Andy Serkis' Ulysses Klaue. The one armed character got the chop in Black Panther, and now the movie's executive producer Nate Moore has opened up about that choice. Spoiler alert: he's actually dead.

[The decision] was made pretty early on because we knew ultimately that more than Ulysses Klaw, Killmonger was the main villain of the film. And he's actually dead. He's dead, dead. Which I think, honestly, was part of the sell for Andy in going, 'Oh, I get to play this character that gets to sort of shine very brightly and burn out quickly. Well, that's kind of fun.' And we only like to tell as much story as we have for a character and I'm not sure how much other story we would have for Klaw, but we were still lucky to have Andy involved.

It looks like plenty of Marvel fans have asked about Klaw since his appearance in Ryan Coogler's Black Panther, hoping in vein that the side villain might pop back up in a potential sequel. Ultimately it looks like he's dead for good, which is probably the right call by the studio. After all, stakes are important.

Nate Moore's comments to Comic Book seems to put the fate of Klaw to rest. Although, he did seem thoroughly dead when his role wrapped in Black Panther. While Andy Serkis' character was T'Challa's original villain, the film ultimately needed to shift focus over to Michael B. Jordan's Killmonger. So the character got to kick some ass and steal some scenes, before being promptly shot in the head by Killmonger himself.

While Ulysses Klaue's death seemed cut and dry, the events of Avengers: Infinity War put a lot into question. Red Skull's return caught everyone by surprise, and made it seem like dead characters could rise at any time. Furthermore, the fans are expecting at least some of the characters who perished during Thanos' finger snap to return, so more resurrections are definitely on the table. It just won't be Andy Serkis' villain, despite his wild performances in both Black Panther and Avengers: Age of Ultron.
