James Gunn Has Screened Avengers: Infinity War, Here's What He Thinks

Slowly but surely, we have begun to inch closer and closer to the April 27 release date of Avengers: Infinity War. It's an event one decade in the making, and many fans are dying to see what the Russo brothers have cooked up. That said, some members of the Marvel Cinematic Universe family have had a chance to see the film, such as Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn. In fact, after seeing the movie, Gunn took to social media to sing his praises of it. The director wrote:

Reviews don't get much more glowing than that. James Gunn obviously cannot say much about Avengers: Infinity War from a plot or character perspective, but he can definitely give his opinion of the overall movie. Based on that short review, it looks like we can look forward to an "incredible" superhero epic that will live up to our current expectations. Now, it might be time to adjust those expectations for something even greater.

James Gunn's short and sweet social media review of Avengers: Infinity War is one of many different stories that have helped me to get excited about what the film has in store. Most of the folks at Marvel have remained relatively tight-lipped about what to expect from the film, but there have been a few tidbits of information here and there that promise something genuinely unique. Not only have actors like Robert Downey Jr. promised a movie that will break our hearts with the deaths that we will see, but screenwriters Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus also hyped the film as a behemoth blockbuster potentially worthy of Oscar consideration when CinemaBlend visited the set last year. Put all of that together, and it's clear that Infinity War may offer up a spectacle unlike anything that we have ever seen from this franchise before.

Avengers: Infinity War is the culmination of ten years of storytelling in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film centers on Thanos (Josh Brolin) as he journeys to Earth with his Black Order to acquire the Infinity Stones and complete the Infinity Gauntlet. As Gamora (Zoe Saldana) explaind in the film's most recent trailer: his ultimate goal is to eliminate half of all life in the universe, which lines up with his mission in the original Infinity Gauntlet storyline in the pages of Marvel Comics. It has been six years since the character turned and smiled at the audience at the end of The Avengers, and James Gunn's exuberant assessment of the final product seems to promise a blockbuster that won't disappoint. Considering his babies -- The Guardians of the Galaxy -- are coming to life under a different set of directors, this seems to be good news.

Audiences will finally get a chance to see if Avengers: Infinity War will live up to that hype when the film debuts in theaters on April 27. I can't see how Red Skull wouldn't return. He's the Joker to Cap's Batman, if you get my drift. To phase him out in one film would be a HUGE mistake IMO. There a ton of ways that he could be written back into the MCU.
